An Introduction to the Martial Art of Aikido and the Aiki Shin System

featuring William Johnson Sensei, Chief Instructor

William Johnson Sensei (5^th DAN) began his training at the Alpha school of Ju-Jitsu (Liverpool, U.K.) at the age of 12.    Professor Jack Britain, who in 1922 was the chief instructor to the London metropolitan police, so inspired Johnson Sensei that 38 years later at the age of 50 his martial arts career is still progressing.

During his period as a young martial arts student, Johnson Sensei was fortunate enough to train with Terry Ashley Sensei and Fred Kelly Sensei (who both later achieved the rank of 5^th DAN). Johnson Sensei was first introduced to the arts of Aiki-Jitsu as taught by Fred Kelly Sensei.    Johnson Sensei attributes his life long study of the martial arts to the skill and dedication of these instructors.

In 1973 Johnson Sensei met Frank Beaty Sensei, who himself was a former student of Professor Jack Britain.    Then began a friendship which has lasted to the present day.    Beaty Sensei, at the age of 75, has become knowledgeable in several forms of martial arts and their philosophies over the past 51 years.    Beaty Sensei continues his search for knowledge with the same enthusiasm as he did in the early days.

Doshin's Review:
An interesting introduction to Aikido as practiced in the U.K.    There is enough repetition of techniques with slow motion action for the unconvinced non-Aikido martial artist to see where this "Aikido Stuff" may not all be about folks falling over on command!    In fact, there's some very interesting sequences of free-form action that looks to be quite effective.
