"The Twin City Novice Traditional Karate Tournament"

An Open Karate Tournament for Novice (8th Kyu to 1st Kyu) in Traditional Japanese/Okinawan Styles. The Tournament will be held Saturday, October 11th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Sports Pavilion, University of Minnesota. Divisions will include: Individual Kumite, Individual Kata, and Team Kata for men, women and children. Kumite matches will be held as follows: 8th Kyu to 7th Kyu - Ippon Kumite, 6th Kyu to 4th Kyu - Jyu-Ippon Kumite, and 3rd Kyu to 1st Kyu - Regular Kumite matches. Most of the judging will be flag system. This is an OPEN karate even for Traditional Japanese and Okinawan Styles.


1997 National Circuit Traditional Karate Tournament (AAKF/ITKF)

The 1997 National Circuit Traditional Karate Tournament will begin Saturday, October 11 starting at 12 noon lasting until 3 pm. This will be open to all Black Belts who were unable to qualify in their region. The competitive categories will only be for individual kata and kumite (men and women). This elimination will not have a limitation on the number of contestants that can participate from each region. Two individuals will be picked from each category for seeding in the 1997 National Traditional Karate Championship (Eliminations and Finals).


36th National Traditional Karate Championships

The National Eliminations will begin immediately after the National Circuit Eliminations. Contestants competing in both eliminations must be at the Sports Pavilion by 12 noon. The Eliminations will begin around 3 pm and conclude by 7 pm.

The Championship Finals will begin on Sunday, October 12, 1997 at 12 noon. The Sunday event will include semi-finals and the finals of each division.

Individual

Men's Kumite, Women's Kumite, Men's Kata, Women's Kata, Men's Fuku-go*, Woman's Fuku-go*

*Fuku-go = alternating compulsary kata and regular kumite bracket

Team

Men's Team Kumite, Women's Synchronized Kata, Men's Synchronized Kata, Men's Enbu (Man/Man), Women's Enbu (Woman/Woman)

Notes: Kumite participants must be between 18 - 55 years of age
