David Winter in a joint venture with
John Hine created in 1979 the first David Winter Cottage - "The Mill House"
which quickly sold out. Production began in a small scale in David's parents' house.
John Hine proved to be a savy marketing and sales person and the cottages became
very fast very popular.
The company grew rapidly and started to export the
cottages to the US. In 1988 David Winter Cottages won the "Collectible of the
Year" award, the same year the Company was awarded the Queens Award for Export.
Later in December 1993 John Hine Limited was sold to Media Arts Group Incorporated
(MAGI) and since 1997 ENESCO is the official distributor of the cottages.
