Precious Moments figurines are manufactured
and distributed worldwide
by the Enesco company of Japan under license from their
creator Sam Butcher.
1998 marked the 20th Anniversary of the Precious Moments
figurine line. The original 21 pieces were produced in 1978 based on artwork by Sam
Butcher. They were an instant success capturing the charm and feeling of Sam's pictures.
Sam, originally a minister, named them "Precious Moments" because they
carried sentiments of love, caring and sharing.
Over 1,000 different models
have been introduced since. Many of the first actual figurines were sculpted in Japan
by Yasuhei Fujioka. The original drawings by Sam Butcher are still sent to the Precious
Moments Design Studio in Japan. Each year several pieces retire and new ones are
introduced.
There is a growing secondary market, a busy collectors club and
an incredible visitors center, the "Chapel". Sam Butcher created and designed
the "Chapel" as a tribute to the Lord. It now forms the foundation of a
1,500 acre complex including a gallery, a museum, the Fountain of Angels, shops,
hotels and a convention center.
